Maureen was welcomed into the safe haven of her parents on August 17, 1920 located in Ranelagh (a suburb of Dublin), Ireland. Marguerita Lilburn fitzSimons' mother was a contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based business and owned a share in "The Shamrock Rovers" famous Irish soccer team. Maureen FitzSimons was the second child of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons, Florrie Fitzsimons Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons completed this wonderful family. Maureen was an athletic natural and loved playing sporting games. This passion was combined with an equally natural gift of performing. That was apparent when she was awarded every Feis in drama and theatre which Ireland could provide. At age 14she was admitted to the Abbey Theater, where her goal was to study operatic singing and classical theater.
